May 31st, 2008 Alkaline Trio – Agony & Irony EP Reviews, Reviews | No Comments »

Ahead of the release of their next full length album, Chicago based Alkaline Trio have released part of the album in the form of an EP early, perhaps in an effort to keep leaked versions of the album away from the internet, but either way having 3 of the 10 slated tracks available so early is a strange move. May 31st, 2008 Doomsday Cinema Movie Reviews, Reviews | 4 Comments »

Cyberpunks rule the roost in a futuristic post apocalyptic Scotland. Well, thats the important part anyway, because any other plotline to the movie is heavily overshadowed by these primitive, yet captivating survivors of the Reaper Virus. Yes, Thats right, another day another Virus movie. Major Eden Sinclair leads a team of agents into a quarantined Scotland (by a 30ft wall constructed around the country in it’s entirety) to find a possible cure for it as three decades on the Virus has popped up it’s cheeky beak in the heart of London. May 30th, 2008 Ghostwritten by David Mitchell Book Reviews, Reviews | No Comments »

Despite all the hype this book received in the run up to its release it was always going to be an ambitious project. Following, briefly, the lives of 9 characters through sub episodic chapters, in 9 different locations, keeping together any firm story line was always going to be hard. Of course keeping together a story may not have been the authors sole objective in writing a book such as this one.

The book was first published in 1999, however the copy that I read was published more recently and features a redesigned cover. Of course this doesn’t make the book but it’s a nice feature. It was designed by Kai and Sunny.

May 29th, 2008 What are you going to do now? Features | 2 Comments »

Part 1: You’ve never had it so good.

Think about why you want to release a record. Really think about it. I’m talking to you, local bands, young bands, bands just starting out with stars in your eyes and dreams of fame in your hearts. Maybe you’ve got a bit of a ‘following’ in your home town, a couple of thousand ‘friends’ on Myspace or Facebook. Perhaps the local press are calling you the ‘next big thing’. Perhaps you’ve pooled your resources and have decided that it’s time to head to the nearest studio, lay down your 10 best songs, then get 1000 CDs pressed up. Yeah! DIY! That’ll show ‘The Man’. May 28th, 2008 Skandal – The Skandal E.P EP Reviews, Reviews | No Comments »

Skandal, formerly a member of Chain of Command, just dropped his debut e.p. on Kilamanjaro under Chemo Production and boy is it heavy. The E.P. contains dubs and clean edits of three tracks from Skandal; Dark Times, Venom and Warning. As well as the fantastic production provided by Chemo (JOE BUDDEN / KOOL G RAP / ROYCE DA 5’9) Skandal is all about crystal clarity when it comes to lyrical delivery. This is evident right from the off and not to mention the fact he’s supporting the likes of Immortal Technique, one of my favourite emcees of modern times. Read the rest of this entry »

May 24th, 2008 Glasgow Britannia Panopticon Features | 1 Comment »

Stage

Two nights ago I was fortunate enough to be able to take a tour around Glasgow’s Britannia Panopticon. The building, situated in the city’s Trongate was opened in 1859 and closed its doors in 1938 after various changes in ownership. Since then the venue has lain dormant until recently where a restoration project has gotten underway to restore the theater to its former glory. Read the rest of this entry »
