I’m not gonna lie. I’ve known Soundshok as a band since the day they formed. I went through school with Scott, the guitarist and Marc, the bassist and have known them both since I was 4 years old. I know that since they started this band they just wanted to play metal, because of how blown away they were by early Sepultura stuff (Morbid Visions – Chaos AD primarily). I was happy for them to have been noticed by a record label and to get the chance to play and be heard potentially around the globe. All they are waiting for now is Rising to hook them up with some big profile tours and I wish them the best of luck.
But onto the CD…! Read the rest of this entry »
With only one album out prior to this gig it was always going to be a fairly short affair, just over half an hour in fact, but it’s about quality not quantity and in my opinion that is what this gig delivered to the relatively packed Sub Club crowd. With two almost machine like dancers and DJ, Santogold (Santi White) produced a performance equally as energetic as her debut album.
Despite the fact that she was performing to a backing track she still managed to disguise this fact with her stage presence and that’s not mean feat considering her relatively small frame. Having listened to the album countless times in the studio I can safely say that the live show does the music justice in a way that a set of nasty Apple speakers could. Her fusion of heavy hip hop baselines and ska punk past seemed to appeal to a wide variety of folk given the diverse mixture of punters in the venue. Read the rest of this entry »
Everyone knows that Dundee is a hotbed of creative talent, from cultural to information technology. One local business pushing the boundaries is Realtime Worlds. Started by Dave Jones , the creator of Lemmings and the Grand Theft Auto franchise, RTW is developing games for next generation consoles, while employing a fair few Dundonians within its ranks. Once such person is Ross Nicoll, BAFTA winning audio designer who we caught up with for a short interview. Read the rest of this entry »

If you don’t know what Space Disco is, Elaste Volume 2 is a quick introduction to the sub genre. A fine catalog of golden age disco gems mixed together to produce a seamless history lesson for those new to classic European and US disco music from the 70s and 80s.
Rufus & Chaka Khan, Panoptikum and Jagg make an appearance, as does Tom Wieland (Les Gammas, Panoptikum, 7Samurai) who has created this compilation. The stand out tracks are Jagg’s Take Time, Stoer’s Don’t Stay Till Breakfast, Panoptikum’s Elaste and Rufus & Chaka Khan’s Ain’t Nobody. Read the rest of this entry »
Last.fm are now starting to pay royalties to independent and unsigned bands who upload their music to the Last.fm music service. Originally announced in January and on the Last.fm blog.
Last.fm is an online radio station where users can broadcast their music collections, listen to music and meet people with similar music tastes (Social Network).
We already have licenses with the various royalty collection societies, but now unsigned artists can put their music on Last.fm and be paid directly for every song played. This helps to level the playing-field—now you can make music, upload it to Last.fm and earn money for each play.
Musicians can opt into the programme when they upload music to the site. Despite the problem that artists will require a lot of plays to make any decent money it’s not a bad thing considering the likes of MySpace who pay royalties only to major record labels and not unsigned musicians.
Clifford Joseph Price aka Goldie has been on the Drum and Bass scene for a while now having released his first track way back in 1992 Goldie has been a stalwart of the electronic music scene particularly Jungle and Drum and Bass and has been pushing the boundaries with his label Metalheadz. As far as I can tell this is his first release since 2006’s D&B Classics mix and it forms part of the Watch the Ride series. Read the rest of this entry »
We’ve now got a Flickr group for undergroundscene.co.uk members and readers which is free for all to join and contribute photography to. We’ll be showcasing the best photography on the site each month so join the group and start contributing. It’s a bit empty just now but we’re pretty sure that’s going to change over the coming days and weeks.
It’s basically a group for band photography, alternative / urban culture, parties, graffiti, urbex and everything and anything related. A bit of a mish-mash but it’s stuff we cover on the site.
