Neils Come Back Gig!

Review by Dean

Well the great Neil returned after his trip to America and to celebrate some of scotlands young talented bands got together to give him a warm welcome back. It was my first visit to the new Westport Bar,Dundee and the first thing I noticed was the great improvement in the set up of the stage and bar. There was much comfusion over the line up for the evening as no one really wanted to play last. First up was the mighty four star. This was the first time I had heard these guys live and all I had to go on was some old recordings from their website. I have to say I was really impressed with their set which consisted of fast catchy pop punk and some light emo sounding a lot like box car racer. They played well and were a great opener for the night. Next up were those noisy melodic punkers Anyone's Junk.We had played with these guys before but that was nothing compared to the way they played that night. The frontman basically stormed round the stage pumping those incredable vocals down the mic. Black Eyes Red Dress was one which really impressed and stood out strongly. Great band and darn nice guys, played a great set and look foward to seeing them again. We (one man race) took to the stage next, we played our usual set of hopefully catcy ska punk and the crowd seemed to take to it well and really helped our performance by dancing, which made it over all one of our fav performances. Next to the stage were punkers DiRtBox playing a selection of really catchy punk songs, was it just me or was retard missing from their set. Anyway they played superb and their drummers ability and variety really impressed me. This was the best I'v heard Dirtbox play, 2nd time wow, and i'm looking foward to purchasing the album. The man himself took to the stage next with his croonies. Not Your Saviour were up next and what a show the put on, An incredable set consisting of fan favourites like no regrets and my lonely year and also 2-3 new songs which I took to straight away. Their set was fast and fun and they are improving by the minute so keep your eyes pealed for these guys. Well with 15 minutes left time was not on their side. The Lance took to the stage not letting anything stop them. Spaceman Lance are one of the bands who look like their enjoying themselves whatever is happing and tonight tthey raced through songs including a rather speedy version of dear punks which I think sounds much better. It wasnt really fair on the band but they did I good job and ended the night on a high. Well Done! And Welcome home Neil!!!
