Biffy Clyro - Infinity Land

Biffy Clyro are a band who have certainly divided opinions amongst music followers, on the one hand their ever growing army of devotees will tell you without a second thought that this album will project biffy into the 'big league' of the british rock scene (whatever that is). Ask somehowever and they will say that they are nothing more than a noise with stupid time changes and a singer who's screams sound like a monkey being castrated.

this album might go somewhere to appeasing the doubters, from the opener 'glitter and trauma', complete with dance/rave intro, through to 'wave upon wave upon wave' and even into closing track 'pause it and turn it up' there is a pop(?!?) sensibility which runs throughout. don't get me wrong, this is the most leftfield album that the band have produced so far, but in a strange way it is also the most commercial.

this is not to say that they have ignored their musical background, this is still biffy clyro, only the songs now take new and exciting twists and venture into grounds that other bands are afraid to touch without ever losing the plot (no matter how hard the christmas carol styles of 'theres no such man as crasp' try), emphasised no better than in the brass introduction to the 'weapons are concealed'.

but the question still remains, does this mean they deserve the hype? personally i believe so, and would urge you to check out this album, as it may well end up being recognised as one of the few genuinely brilliant alternative albums in what has so far been a dissapointing year for music.
