Let's get UGS Bands on local radio

DO YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR LOCAL MUSIC SCENE?

There are 168 hours in a week. That's 167 hours for the local Dundee radio station Tay FM to play the top40 and sell advertising. Recently their 1 hour show "The Weekenders" was cancelled. It was the only hour out of 168 where new independent music and unsigned demos could be heard. Tay FM say they can't justify the slump in ratings after the chart show (30,000 to 2,000).

"I believe that catering for that 2000, and showing a commitment to new
music is crucial for a local radio station and that one hour our of 168 is a
tiny gesture of support - you are quite right that the local music community is
being let down."
- Emily Dewhurst, Dundee City Council.

This policy of killing off shows on local radio that play independent music has already happened in ABERDEEN (NorthSound) and EDINBURGH (Forth FM).

Let's get it back on air. Let's get Allergo, Thee Moths, The A Forest, Spyamp, Laeto, Kaddish, Engage, A Written Apology, and any other underground band from our scene on there.
Let's get comprehensive gig listings and info announced on it.
Let's get as many demos in an hour as we can get on the radio.
Let's make it relevent and get UNDERGROUNDSCENE.CO.UK involved.
Let's get local schools and companies involved, such as Stage2000, Seagate Studios, The Courier, Evening Telegraph, Beatgenerator, Dundee University Bands Society, SoundControl, FOPP, Rainbow Music, Grouchos, Westport Bar, Reading Rooms, Drouthy Neebors. I'd rather have a 1 hr programme of 100% independent music on local radio than give it up.

Emily believes that the show CAN BE BROUGHT BACK INTO THE SCHEDULE if enough people voice their support. Or if you'd rather it was a brand new show and played 30mins of demos / unsigned stuff along with other independent music then say so!

THE PRINCIPLE HERE IS WE CAN GET INDEPENDENT MUSIC BACK ON TAY FM IF WE MAKE OURSELVES HEARD, AND I BELIEVE THATS WORTH DOING RATHER THAN HAVING NONE AT ALL.

TELL THEM WE WANT IT BACK.
