Heres the email I sent off and I also carbon copied it to
studio@wave102.co.uk If Tay FM wont support the local scene maybe they will!
I was deeply upset to read that the Weekenders show has been cancelled. In Dundee this was one of the easist ways for bands to try and build a local fanbase outside of the loyal friends who come along to their every gig. If Tay FM can't dedicate one hour to local talent to try and foster Dundees own Franz Ferdinand or Snow Patrol (who used to play the Westie all the time) then why should those in the Dundee music scene support Tay FM? If Tay FM is only willing to support generic corporate dross then you will lose any right to then crow of their successes should any local bands "make it". As a Tayside based radio station you should be doing anything you can to foster talent in the local area, I presume that is why you hire out your rehearsal studios and have a gig guide on your website to why stop there?
I urge you to reverse your decision and choose to actively support local music
