I think Cobains lyrics were pretty stinking sometimes. A mullato, an albino, a mosquito, my libido springs to mind. and also, the lyrics to Debaser by the Pixies really get on my chabs also. "I am une chienne andalusia" etc, rubbish. giving a vague description of some shitty French arthouse film does NOT a good lyric make.
the Weakerthans write the best lyrics in my eyes, they're always cheery, warm, and just a little bit cynical. I also like "the universe is shaped exactly like the earth, if you go straight and long enough you'll end up where you were" by Modest Mouse. incredibly simple, but the sentence flows along so well. Gift of Gab from Blackalicious writes intelligent, well formed hip hop verses. and I like the lyric "I just want the world to know, you've got me at an all time low, but I wrote the song that broke your fucking heart" by American Nightmare, although a lot of their lyrics are shit. and also "wear your makeup like a weapon" but I can't remember who penned that.
