I have heard from many different sources that you can make quite a convincing kick drum sound from using a large cardboard box used for the likes of TV's, washing machines on it's side, covering up the opening with selotape and then placing a cheap vocal mic in front of it. Instead of using a pedal you just boot it but to make sure it doesn't fly away you have to put a breeze block inside.

Anyone ever tried/used this before? Sounds quite bizzare.
I remember fraser told me a story like this, i'll let him tell it though.
