Review Biffy Clyro Carling Academy 17/2/05

Ghostride take the stage looking like a band with a lot to prove, and the ex-Will Haven member certainly do their best to rip it up tonight despite a poor sound severly hampering their performance, something not enhanced by their singers lack of stage presence. While the rest of the band seem 'lost in music' (apologies for the cheapness there!) he merely seems to be going through the motions. This is certainly NOT an accusation you can lay at the feet of Hell Is For Heroes. Their decision to take creative control over their new album seems to have paid dividends as the new songs on display all sound thrilling. The oldies don't go down too badly either...

It was a brave move to invite such great support act(s?) on this tour, but any doubts about Biffy Clyro's ability to rise to the challenge are dispelled by the time Glitter and Trauma kicks into life (complete with non-skipping cd intro!). The Go-Slow then proceeds to whip an already incredibly excited crowd into a manic frenzy of singing madmen/women. It's common knowledge that Biffy Clyro can rock singalongs, however possibly the most impressive parts of tonights show come during an acoustic version of The Atrocity and the a-cappella There's No Such Man As Crasp, both done absolutly beautifully. There's No Such Thing As A Jaggy Snake rips the crowds lungs out again, before an impassioned rendition of 57 almost takes the roof off the Carling Academy. Not many bands can inspire this much devotion but fail to really see it transform into big record sales, but SURELY Biffy Clyro's big break into stardom is just around the corner...
