it costs more money and a lot more effort on the part of venues to make a gig +16 and check all id's. it's effort they just don't want to use because they don't lose anything by making a gig +18. underagers drink £1 cans of coke etc.

the secc and other venues are different, they're not bars primarily and so care more about ticket sales than drinks sales.

it comes down to the fact that you're hiring a pub, not a concert venue or a function suite and if they want to bother doing something they will. if not they'll just say no, it's their money that's being risked
