I like games where you get a choice between good and evil. Like Black and White, for example. You can do really good things, but you can also be a right evil bastard if you choose to, and do things like setting the creche on fire, and ruling the villagers with an iron fist.

I also like the freedom of games like GTA, where you just go about this massive town looking for things to do. I really need to pick up San Andreas again when I've got some free time.
I kind of like enjoy my first person shooters and GTAs a lot as well, I just like the innovation shown in a lot of Nintendo's stuff, and I think maybe I just wish these things were out when I was a lot younger. I do see your point though, as although Animal Crossing and things like this can be mega fun, other times you catch on to yourself and you're like "Is this fun? I can't tell anymore..". I like Harvest Moon on my Gamecube but I think I'm too stupid for RPGs, and too lazy for farming.

I think I like the artistic merit of these games that have quirky peripherals that have you doing things in real life, or games with plot-changing decisions, or games that make you question whether there is much of a game there at all, or life simulators, or ones that genuinely invoke emotion or attachment to the character. I like the idea of games as art: as movies you can determine the outcome of, or novels you interact with and enjoy at your own pace.

I really like the idea of a survival horror game where after struggling through a giant resource-management/first-person-shooter/RPG and getting emotionally attached to your character, you are unavoidably killed. You will complete your overall mission maybe, or it'll be ambiguous but I just like the idea of making the gamer feel like "What was the point?" and feel helpless and futile, a la "Night of the Living Dead". Or something like Ico. Do not read the spoiler if you want to experience Ico to the full.

Spoiler:
At the end of Ico, you are led to believe for a while that the character you were protecting for the whole game was killed and the credits roll and you cry, then post-"end" you actually play another tiny section of game where you discover she is alive and well and it is joy, joy, joy.

Oh hell, I just love games..
