I like using double bass, but I know I use too much of it. I'm really trying to cut down in our songs (only 1 on the 5 song EP with no double bass). I'm starting to really work on heel-toe trying to get that good. I've managed the basic punk beat a few times with one foot but my foot begins to get tired very quickly.
I can do heel-toe on the hi-hat on it's own, but never manage to keep it going in a beat.
What do you do with your hi hats with the basic punk beat? Some people go:

HH x---x---x---x---x---x.....
SN x---x---x---x---x---x.....

and fill in the rest with the bass. Ive heard others do:

HH x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
SN x---x---x---x---x---x

This what I do, but I just dont seem to be able to get any more speed, and I find the momentum into fills really difficult.

What about other people? How do they do a simple, fast punk beat? Im sure I hear people out there doing something like Jazz with a single then a double stroke of the hi-hat.....
