yes and no. Mankind has not been around very long in the scale of things. Yes we have achived Space travel and sent a man on the moon. But whats to say we will colonise another planet in the near futre? I mean, really colonise a new world, not some 20 astronaughts living in an enclosed enviroment that isnt self sustained.
Any number of things could kill off our species, as you quite correctly said, it will probably end up being us. Climate change is too slow to do the job as we can adapt. Thats why man has progressed so far. Other species cannot adapt to the extent we have.
But despite all of this, i refuse to live my life in the fear of what nature may or may not do. Homo Spaian 'species' is very new on earth and in the end, we are organisms just like every other living creature that can go extinct. Just like the Dinosaur and many other species did and they were on the Earth faaaar longer than we have been.
