ok, little bit of advice wanted for a beginner

i've been looking in both Sound Control and Rainbow lately, as i'm about to buy my first guitar. I've got just about everything planned as to what i'm looking for, budget, gear, etc.

I've decided on a Les Paul style guitar, tho obviously i'm not buying a Gibson as a first buy. I've settled on an either an Epiphone LP100 or Special 2, tho i'm leaning to the LP100. The idea being, I want to learn on something pretty decent, that won't break the bank like an Epi Les Paul Std, which is out of my budget.

I've had trouble finding an LP100 in either of the shops. My budget (for the guitar) is about £200, tho I would spend upto £230 if I had to. Are there any LP100s in SC or Rainbow, (or elsewhere in Dundee) or cud they be ordered if need be?

I have seen Jim Deacon Les Paul copies in Rainbow at £199-£219 with gig bag, which i wudn't mind getting, but only if I can't find an LP100, which seem to retail for slightly less (online anyway).

Are Jim Deacon's any gud? i reckon they'd be alright for a beginner, but I'd like something that is more than 'just a beginners guitar' and an Epi seems a better choice.
