Anyone know how to fix this, we have only slight knowledge of this machine...

Analog, 8 tracks on tape. This may be a bit of a pickle to anyone without specific know-how on this particular model, but any help would be welcome.

anyone?
did you record the drums too hot? i've used that particular model and found that if the levels are too high you get alot of crosstalk on the tape. Clean the heads using isopropyl alcohol, don't use ferric tape because it has a higher noise floor and distorts at lower levels. Get chrome or metal tape.

Run the machine at high speeds and try and get your peaks around 0dB on the level meter, higher than +6 and things will start to noticebly distort, lower with ferric tape.

If you could be more specific about how you are routing signals to the headphones i might be able to offer you more advice.
