The state of todays scene by Buddy Nielsen (senses fail)
22 Mar 2006: Manute Bol Is The Most Honest Man I Know
I want to take this chance to be honest, and not think before I speak. I just feel as though so many people and so many bands are holding back. They are afraid to say what they really feel. They guard their image like filthy politicians not wanting the public to know that they are a back stabbing, blood sucking, perverted closet-monsters.
I just hate the way this music scene has changed; especially this whole idea that black eyeliner "really gets the kids going." This is supposed to be about music, not making the style section of Teen People. That is the very sad part; it is no longer about the music for most of these bands. It is a competition to see who can jump on to the coat tails of a dying trend and sell the most records before they are stung by the mascara that is dripping into their eyes.
I just don't understand what people out there see in these bands. Is it the fact that they are just so fucking adorable that they get all the girls’ panties tied into knots? It can't be. Can it? I thought they were supposed to be so dark and satanic with their all black outfits as they grace the glossy pages of magazines.
I can just see them all now, crowded in front of a mirror backstage, fighting for the right angle to apply their make-up. They are so daring aren't they? ...Trying to push an envelope that’s already been licked, stamped and sent away years ago…
This is a just a terrible regurgitation of glam/hair metal. It makes me actually want to throw up in my own hands. The music, the scene, the lifestyle that I grew up in and want to protect as something sacred, is just a big fucking joke to everybody in it and for everybody that is looking in. It has become a race for each label to find the most un-original band, get them in the studio, make sure they have the right clothes, hair-cut, ‘the look’ and then stuff them down everybody’s throat.
As with everything else, music moves in waves and circles. I just can't wait for the day that it all comes crashing down.
p.s. This is a battle cry for Rock 'n Roll.
This is was posted on Senses Fail's site by their vocalist, Buddy Nielsen. Not sure I agree with him, haven't thought about it enough. Just thought it would be a good topic for you folks on ugs!
