oh come on?

"Punk/underground bands have nothing to do with being elitist."

a large percentage of punk and metal fans are *extremely* elitist. its just silly to say that they aren't.

also, there are two sides to *every* argument. mtv is a great source of entertanment for many, so its a good thing for them. it's responsible for some good things (beavis and butthead, haha) and constant promotion of 'smells like teen spirit' spring to mind. the musical content is pretty much rubbish now, but so are most mainstream radio stations 90% of the time. you cant deny the power of pop music culture, and its not nessecarily (sp?) a bad thing.

more 'good' (i.e. underground) music would be on mtv if it was more popular. but then it wouldn't be underground anymore. so that would make many people who liked it when it was 'alternative' to begin to dislike it for its mass popularity. so mtv would still be playing 'pish' mainstream music. paradox or what?

mtv will never be able to break a great band with integrity, that can only be done by the corruption of a band by themselves.

but personally, yeah it sucks...
