Fair enough for blastbeats and fast metal drumming, but if its just for going "boom chh boom boom che" really fast then it just sounds lazy. I'm not slagging off your drumming Ian, i think you are a good drummer and improving at a tremendous rate. It's just lazy double kick players in general. Yeah it sounds gimmiky and you can make people think 'woah, he's really fast' but any drummer can see it doesnt take much skill. There is definately a place for double kick as long as it is used tastefully.
This comment makes me think of Trashlight Vison. theres a song that use's it only at the end and it fits in perfect. Double bass in songs that are of a moderate tempo reallys needs to be placed in well otherwise yeah, it dose sound out of place...
