I have never been able to figure out why people get so worked up about the royal family and feel so bitter towards the Queen.

I think last year they spent £64 million of public money (which is actually down on the previous years) which is quite a lot less than other government departments and reason it is down is because the royal household took control of a lot of the public money that would otherwise have been spent by the governtment on their behalf (who seem incabable of keeping to any budget).

Anyway my point is that in my opinion they the has done a lot more good than harm and I have far bigger concerns about what my taxes are spent on, not to mention the fact that my student loan repayments vastly outstrip what I have to pay to keep the Queen. But that's another issue.

I think anyone that reaches 80 deserves to have a bit of a celebration and I would rather have the Queen in charge than a president.
