Yeah I don't think this is the start of WW3, but it is very serious. Since Syria pulled out of Lebanon, Hezbolllah has been able to gain a serious foothold in the South. The Lebanese Government have no control over Hezbollah and this is the problem.
Israel's repsonse has, to my mind been disproportionate.
More than 200 Lebanese citizens have been killed since Israel launched air strikes last Wednesday following the capture of two Israeli soldiers by militant group Hezbollah.Twenty-four Israelis have died in the violence - 12 as a result of Hezbollah rocket attacks. Source:

Israel will be "allowed" by the international community to pummel Lebanon for a while yet in attempt to weaken Hezbollah's infrastructure, then a multinational force will go in to help the Lebanese military regain control of it's border with Israel.
I couldn't believe it when I heard the one of the senior Israeli officials saying it's too early for a ceasefire. Surely there can be no such thing.
States attacking other states is bad. When states attack militant groups in other states it's even more horrific.
