I wouldnt say 15 valve watts sounds close to 60 or 70 watts solid state, SS amps do clip horribly and hard-clipping does suck, but, id say a 60 or 70 watt SS amp is louder than a 15 watt valve amp, i know alot of people say valve amps sound like they are 3-4x higher wattage (well "SS watts"), but, im still not sold on that , i know my SVT is loud, but, ive still to compare it to a 1200 watt SS setup!

One amp that i really like is the peavey classic 30, it has a very fendery sound to it.

very nice wee amp, pretty loud, when running through a 412 its loud! I got mine for £200 secondhand with the stock peavey valves, when need-be, ill replace them with some JJ's (the current production Tesla's essentailly)
