In the post you refer to, I believe that mr lizard hadn't realized that the laney VC15 WAS a low powered valve combo and mistook it for a cheaper solid state device. I'm sure if he had, he would have told you that can get good sounds from a decent amplifier under 30 watts in a home recording situation. Why ask for advice when you don't read it properly. Seems a bit pointless like.
