Have you built a bass cab before man? i'd be interested to hear you thoughts on your ideal constructiuon and layout. When you refer to an open back cab, are you talking about fully open? because a completely open back behaves quite differently to 3/4 or 1/2 open back. its also important when building speaker enclosures to take into consideration your cabinet material and baffle material. different materials resonate in different ways- 3/4 ply will be more sonically dead than, say solid ash maybe.

oh and plenty glue please

rattles are fooking annoying!
Ive never made my own, but, i must admit, im pretty simple, not a fan of anything too complex, im a big fan of a sealed 8x10 enclosure or a ported 2x15 (two completelly different yet great sounds).

I do realise that id effects it how much coverage there is, i just honestly didnt think it mattered too much, what i do remember is that with a fully open backed cab its classed as an infinate baffle, and yeah, the internal wadding can make a surprising amount of difference, apparently adding another 1/2 inch of a denser wadding to newer ampeg 810E cabs makes a huge difference to them.

And, about baffle materials, they dont matter as much in the bass world to be honest, if its sturdy enough to hold thats what counts, but i dare say its alot to do with the different resonance frequencies produced by the different instruments . . . and guitarists being fussy buggers

Now that im thinking about it, if i dont have a 2x10 by next year (i want to replace my 4x10 with something more portable, still having the big boys for gigs), then i may consider making a 2x10 cab, sealed, maybe use some eminence Neo speakers, could be a fun project!

Also, did you ever get round to your case making? I may be in the market for a high quality 4U case for my SVT
