a bass pod into a tube poweramp will work, just make sure you buy a good poweramp. A lot of people think the bass pod is a great unit (compared to the guitar pod) and much more capable of providing good sounds. I'm not a huge fan personally but you could always get a different preamp at a later date.

I recommend power amps by Ampeg, the SVT-300 and by Demeter, although their poweramps are expensive! very!
