I must admit to you i made an error in my post! The amplifier i was thinking of was the marshall Major lead amp. It utilised four KT88's in the power section giving a fairly stupendous 200 watts. They could be driven (and sound incredible), but at some risk to your health! Have you tried out the JJ KT77s in your bass head yet? I'm intrigued by them.
As an addition to my previous post, the original 60's JTM45 was a 5881 based amplifier, and is my favourite marshall amplifier.
