The naval one was Salamis and THAT was the battle that crushed Xerxes and forced him to flee back to Persia. Plataea was the final Greek victory over his remaining land army...(but that said, the greeks were still outnumbered)
i loved this film. Thought it was absofuckinglutely stunning.
And o be fair to Frank Miller, it is actualy rather Historicaly accurate if you go by Herodatus's (sorry cant spell) account (which was written using accounts from survivors, and herodatus actualy visited the Hot Gates)
Everything was done over-the-top and i thought that made it that much more of a thrilling movie. The fantasy element kept it from being just another 'ancient war epic' like Troy and the comic book bleakness was inspired.
Plus...all the best lines where actulaly said by the real Spartans
"This is SPARTA"
"SPARTANS, WHAT IS YOUR PROFFESION?"
"come back with this shield or on it"
"Come and take them!!!"
"the medes arrows shall black out the sky....good, then we shall fight in the shade"
