Perhaps it was the muslims' god smiting some christians because he's the real one?
Christianity, Islam and Judaism are all from the same branch of religion i.e. they are all based around the same God figure. It's each religion's interpretation of God's will that differs but the big difference is who the main man is in each case.

Christianity has Jesus
Islam has Muhammad
Judaism has Abraham

However they all apear in each other's religion as prophets. I like to think of it like politics, i.e. God is the UK and the three religions are fighting over the publics' vote for control of Gods will just like our 3 main parties (the Green Party are the Pagans in this analogy)

At the end of the day I think it's quite wrong to be telling someone to discard their beliefs because we all say they are wrong. That's how they've chosen to live.

I'll agree it becomes unacceptable if a belief/religion is used as a smokescreen for something that is wrong or causes harm, using a very skewed interpretation of religion as an excuse i.e. The God Hate's Fags brigade, Evangelists who prey on scared, vulnerable people, Cults, mad hardline religious fanatics who are ignorant to all around them and assume what they think is the right way which can result in bombs, torture, the breakup of a country (e.g India) or even the buring of Metal Albums.

This is not religion but an an insecurity that some of these people think can be helped by becoming more hardline. These people probably see "Black" when they read "White", that's the only way to explain their weird interpretations of sacred writings. I see "Thou Shall not Kill" they see "Thou shall kill so as not allow others even the slightest chance to kill me.....or take our women"

However people who are probably closer to the real meaning of the texts are actually capable of doing some good. Are we saying Christian Aid should stop operating because Jesus wasn't real? Such organisations are founded using the basic Christian values/ideas. Maybe the person dishing out the ideas never existed but that's not to say the ideas are rubbish.

While I am not a devout follower of any religion and am probably more on the scientific side of the fence, I have learned to try not to preach to others just as I hate being preached to myself (don't always get it right). I have my own ideas but will not claim them to be or wrong, they're just my ideas.

I like to think that we are not able to explain everything at the moment as I belive there is more for science to understand and discover. Perhaps in the future we may discover, through science that there is a roaming, all seeing being who tends to his garden (the universe) or that there was some inteligence involved in the big bang.

Evolution requires diversity so we can't all be like you Alex otherwise we'd all be fucked.......in the ass ;-)
