Maybe if more djs behaved like djs rather then just human jukeboxes, people might hear some new and exciting music rather than the same shit every weekend.

Yes, but I've been to far too many electronica shows where the prevailing attitude was one of splendid isolation when it comes to the music on offer.
I actively seek out new music at these things and if I hear something I like, I'll ask the DJ what it is.
With the "the whole point of djing is no requests" attitude is that the DJ is some unapproachable uber denzien of taste and that whatever they are playing is way cooler than anything you could even think about asking for so don't even bother. And woe betide you if you don't know what they're playing because then you're just showing how uncool you are.
