Went to a Bella Union gig last night at the Venue, Edinburgh as part of the Triptych festival with Nick (Hotellounge).

Acts were:
Bikini Atoll: I quite liked these guys. They had some really good songs but then they had a couple of 'slow' numbers and it just didn't fit in with the rest of the show! They reminded me of Soulwax with a few of their songs...Along the 'Please...Don't Be Yourself' vein. Which is good!

Josh Martinez & Sleep: A Canadian...and an American...rapping together about things! Teenage girls not liking them anymore because they have beer guts...How they met...The state of the world today...How Josh Martinez is and always will be the best dancer at Junior High. Etc. It was funny! They did the typical early 90's rapper slides which was hilarious. Nick and I joined in...All part of the fun!

The Czars: Hmm. These guys put me to sleep nearly. I really don't think they're a very good band live. Their recorded stuff might be a lot more pleasing but...It was like Lambchop but without the masses of people backing up the singer...Just a piano and a guitar. Very pretty but snooze worthy. We stayed for 6 or so songs, knocked back our pints and left.

After having been expecting a gig full of punk rock and sweatiness we got neither but I think we were pleasantly surprised by 2 of the acts

Went to see Mortiis last nite, it was either that or stay in and have sex with the cooker.

1st band - missed em

2nd band - Big fat dude shouted at me for a half hour

Mortiis - Met a guy from the Czech Republic who barely spoke any English but wanted to score sum weed off my mate. Mortiis comes on.....sorta looks like Djinn, y'know the wishmaster guy? Anyway i've heard Mortiis' stuff before and it sucked but he's alright live. Although one of the guitarists is an alien. I try in vain to pull his nose off when he comes near me. The guy from the Czech Republic jumps about a bit, gets beaten up by all the fat goth female heffers who were there who seemed to think moshing was as appropriate at a norwegian black acid death metal gig was about as acceptable as swastikas at a Bar Mitzva. These fat chicks pushed him like fuck and he didnt understand they were angry he thought it was general moshing (what a shit word) he gets pushed and pushed till he got on stage then got ripped off it by the bouncers. Boo to you heffers. All in all it was an ok gig. Mortiis even posed for a photo with me afterwords (sans nose sadly). Saw roots manuva last night at the liquid rooms. He was great, fantastic backing band too. Highly recommend his new album Awfully Deep.

Kano supported, was pretty cool too.

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM-UH! Yass! Twas at the Venue. Went with Marc (MisterMarc) and we danced and danced and danced!

The DJ's that played before, between and after the 2 bands that were on were not too shabby, they certainly got the crowd going.

Hot Chip were brilliant! Having not heard any of their recorded stuff before I was well impressed. Really fun and dancey which is always a good thing. I'll have to investigate their recorded stuff, apparently it's not as good as the live show though...According to Marc.

Then! Eep! LCD Soundsystem came on and they made us all dance like people who have no control over their bodies! Marc and I were right at the front dancing like maniacs at the feet of James Murphy who is podgier than I thought and sweats all over the place. The band were just awesome! The drummer - woah - he just kept going and made it danceably great. Nancy Wang needs to be involved more. She never broke a sweat and was the epitome of cool on the stage. There were 2 bassists which just made it uberly brilliant, one of them did change to guitar every so often. One of them had to run off the stage just before they played 'Yeah' to go and spew which was very funny hehe

I had to buy a t-shirt after the awesome show they put on. I didn't think it'd be possible for them to be THAT great live but they were TOTALLY AMAZING. Everyone who likes them should go and see them and dance as much as me and Marc did last night. Wow.

also, i saw aberfeldy the other night and they were a+. and the singer kept forgetting the words and i wanted to give him a hug.
