Iron Maiden at the SECC

Great gig from them, I thought.

Bring on the moaning about them playing the new album in full - let's face it, the new album is amazing and it's the only time you're going to see them do that. I respect the fact they've got the balls to do that to a crowd of folk who no doubt wanted to hear "Run To THe Hills" again. Good choice of oldies at the end although more of them would have been nice.

Trivium were okay-ish. I'm not familiar with them on record which didn't help. They at least respect their roots (coming back next year with Annhilator in tow, apparently). However, had they come out in the glory days of thrash metal would anyone have given then the time of day?

Lauren Harris being on this bill is a prime example of nepotism gone wrong. Her band can play, she's a passable front woman but it's pub rock and not particularly good pub rock either. Between us lot (Mark, Colin, Mike, Rab, John and I) we guessed two, maybe three cover version in a six song set.

I have to say, I was starting to get bored by them playing the whole new album, despite it being good all the songs started to sound the same to me.

However, the classics they played and the immense stage props more than made up for it.

Only got in in time to see two Trivium songs and thought they were pish.
