Post The Caffeine Show

THe gig with Caffiene and 4ft fingers did not go as smoothley as planned, here's the story -
All the bands got the westie at about 3pm, everythings going cool, all the bands seem like sound people, no twats. (Yet)
Sound check goes well too, great sound at the westport.
Now!!! we have £47 to spend on Caffiene and 4ft Fingers, which is not really a lot of money, but we thought the guy's wouldn't mind, then Caffiene act like kids and want pizza hut, so we all split up and give each band £25 each coz we can't be bothered with caffeine any more.
7-45pm - Get to the westport, Oh dear!! no ones here yet, no crowd at all. We start at 8-30, crowd still quite non existent. but we expect people to show up after we've played.
Band after band, still only about 30 people there. So we only made about £150 or something at the door, not very good considering Caffeine and 4ft Fingers need £300 pay.
We speak to 4ft fingers, who are cool about it and don't mind just getting £60, but!!!!!!! Caffeine wouldn't leave without getting payed £180, so poor me had to go and take £200 out of my own bank account to pay the guy's.
So overall not a very succesfull night for Geek-Core. Much Debt
I can now see why no-one in the punk scene likes Caffeine.

Hmm, being a mod i cant swear too often, but that wont let me stop saying what i'm gonna say. Greedy bastards. At least 4ft Fingers had the decency to forgive and forget.

But dont let that get in GeekCore's way. At least you'll know who not to get for a gig. Besides, it aint really your fault they agreed to play. They should know that they aint the best punk band in the world.

I guess this leads us back to the old story about Dundee people not going out as much as they should and as much as all the other peeps in neighbouring cities do. People need to go out and support their local bands as often as possible.

But i'm getting away from the point. Why did you have to pay for lunch and everything? If those idiots wanted to go to Pizza Hut they should pay for it themselves. I guess this is prime example of a well known band taking full advantage of their name. Well, at least now people will be taking advantage of the bad name that they give themselves.

Paying for bands food is one of the sacrifices a promoter has to make, but if I was on tour like they are I would settle for someting cheap like a sandwich or something, I'm not fussy.
Plus the gig on saturday was supposed to be their day off before we booked the show, so they shouldn't have bothered if they didn't get payed in full coz they wouldn't have been getting payed anyway.
Geek-Core will keep going, but if the people in dundee don't start taking an interest, what's the point?

its hard to find an easy solution, thats why alot of bands seem to avoid Dundee at the moment to play elsewhere.

I think bands should also do more to publicise themselves, like give out demo tapes and flyers and things like that.

The gig you guys did in Carnoustie attracted more people than most of the gigs in Dundee do. That was a fun night, even though the PA sucked ass, at least people turned up.

Kev, it's not your fault man.

I saw Caffeine with Offspring a few years back and thought they were fucking awful. And you are right, they're a bunch of egotistical, arrogant dicks (hmmmm, English )

Like what's said before, the only way to make money is to lose money but having Caffeine was a bit risky man, the only reason so many people have seen Caffeine is because they HAD to sit through them before AFI, OFFSPRING, NFG.

As a pishy support band, they're ok, but as an actual main headlining band, I think they're aiming that little bit to high.

But keep up the good work and don't let them put you down

ps. He wasn't weraing his white vest again was he?

heres my recommendation, arrange what type of food you're going to provide first.

last time for TTN we just paid them money so they could please themselves, prolly mean we did worse than we could have done.

this time round we're going to do a buffet, most likely preparing the food ourselves. of course you need the band to agree to this first but you'll save a shitload of money. only problem at the moment is i need to have food for veggies as well, what the hell do they eat?

heres the best example though, marshan and sea of green turned up without requesting any food, i thought they'd expect something so bought 4 pizzas and some snacks, they were well chuffed, esp as i got them beer too. Sea of Green buggered off to the Counting House to try haggis and i payed nowt for it.

it all depends on what you agree too in the end, but the attitudes of the band more important if they want to be welcome back in the area again.

yeah i'm one of the folk doing it.

i've also arranged the gigs for TTN and This Girl that are listed on your gig guide now, thanks very much for that

i've got another band booked now but thats way off in October so theres not much point submitting it to your listing. its two bands from Ireland coming over, both very heavy. something bit different to the usuall punk touring bands dundee seems to get at a rate of almost 1 a week *ahem*

i'm soon to turn into a tight fisted promoter though, most of these gigs will be organised by myself and mr Shaun Codognato, he's bloody excellent at getting folk to go to gigs as he just hassles the fuck out of them til they give in

hey guys... its Nico of Purple Poodle and Meander (formerly known as Weave)...

It sucks that Caffeine were bastards, I suddenly feel guilty as hell for not coming out to the show. To be honest i'd never heard of Caffeine before a week ago so they really shouldnt take themselves THAT seriously. Ach well I guess its just another reminder to trust noone. In the past month ive been screwed by owners of a venue (as the M.Y. boys will know about) and a hell of a lot of PA hire companies.

Oh and to people reading the forum, if you like Misled Youth:-

PURPLE POODLE PROMOTIONS PRESENTS:

Misled Youth + Slaphappy + CHUG + Meander

3rd of May, Letham Village Hall, Letham.

i can't believe you gave em money out your own pocket. i had something similar with deisel boy in the waterfront but basically told em that they get what they're given or they can have fuck all.
never take a band that wants a garuntee, if they're not confident enough of their own pulling power why should you take the financial risk?

agreed. These guys obviously think too much of themselves. Next time it happens, refuse. Did you sign a contract or anything? They as smallbob says, they didnt have the pulling power and so was not your fault.

I was just reading on their message board on there site, and everyone keeps saying how good they are. If only they knew what they were really like. But then you have to remember that they took their day off to play in Dundee so they do have that going for them. I basically just contradicted myself, but who cares. Stuff em. There are plenty of decent bands out there who dont think they are all that but see themselves as being the same as everyone else.

they only played on their "day off" cuz they reckoned they'd be £300 better off for it.
i put good clean fun on the first time they played here, they came from the US not the UK and drove all day to get to dundee from bristol or something all for £50 and they were totally happy with that. as far as they were concerned they got to play to new people, had somewhere to sleep(albeit my floor) and got fed some good food, they weren't playing in a band for money but for the love of the scene and making friends which is way healthier than these career punk bands you get.
oh and caffiene post most of the messages on their board themselves.
