Pointless'ness
I was at cage one week when there was a bouncer on the door. these 3 guys came up dressed up like normal looking clothes (stylish jeans and a shirts and shoes). the barman looked at the bouncer and shifted his head to the door as if to say "ohhhh nooo! Neds!". so anyway, the bouncer wen over and wouldnt let them in for no reason. he then i.d'd them(they all looked over 18 btw, and there where ppl(moshers) in cage who looked younger than them) they didnt have any i.d so they left. i seemed like there was no point in this, why wouldnt they just let them in and if they caused any trouble they could have thrown them out, maybe they where just there for a laugh like we where.
bloody picky bastards. |

It is indeed a little harsh, but one night at Cage some guys dressed in kinda casual clothes got let in and generally were a complete pain in the ass. They were obviously completely off their faces and had probably got thrown out everywhere else and decided to give Cage a try. They blatantly wern't interested in the music, but two of them proceeded to jump around the dancefloor like loons, knocking people flying and nearly burning everyone in sight with their fags. Eventually it meant that no one could get onto the dancefloor to dance to their requests for fear of getting knocked over/punched/burnt. The bouncer just kinda stood there watching the whole time.
I'm not saying its right that people should get turned away just coz of the way they're dressed, but its understandable why the bouncers and bar staff are a little aprehensive when people like that try to get into Cage. If anyone dressed in an 'alternative' style tried to get into somewhere like the Mardi on a Friday or Saturday night, they'd no doubt get turned away too. Although its unfair to make the assumption that just coz they're trendies they're gonna try and start a fight, the bouncers and barstaff are kind of there to make sure theres no trouble. |

maybe they just wanted to give the place a nice look, so that older people would go to that pub. |

Yeah I know of a couplea places that haven't let people in because of their clothes, Lloyds didn't let my bf in one night, probably due to the fact he was wearing eyeliner, had his nose pierced + wasn't wearing *insert trendy type label here*. They refused to accept any of the id he had. Although, I think it was just the bouncer to be honest, he was an arse.
I've never been refused entry into a club or anywhere because of the clothes I'm wearing, or at least not that I'm aware of. In the ferry especially I've been id'd tons of times (probably cos I look young) but never refused once I've shown my matric card, even though I'm not wearing what they'd like me to be. |

Well we're not the biggest city and the pubs are here aren't even that really good. Ive been in most of the pubs in town and they cant realy afford to be turning down custom just because of the way people dress

In all fairness I see where your coming from Chris, but I honestly think the situation at cage was based on the normal people being calssed as "neds" could have been refused because alot of "neds" are seen to cause trouble and start fights.
yeah the bouncer could have let them in and it could've been alright no trouble, but if they bhad let them in and there was trouble then that spoils everyone elses night. Its happened loads of thimes at cage, bouncers let so called "neds" in and there's always trouble, to be honest every "ned" who has come to cage every time I have been there has been chucked out.

I've been refused entry to most of the clubs in banbury and oxford.... Mainly because i am a scruffy cow, and most places don't allow jeans and trainers. I don't really mind that much, because all the clubs are crap. I remember one time, my friend making me go to a club in banbury, and i was wearing black cord flares and old trainers. I just took my trainers off, put them in my friends bag, and went in bare footed, and put my trainers back on when i got upstairs. My trousers were long enough to cover my bare feet, so no one noticed.
But, yes, generally, places that have dress codes are usually not worth the effort anyway. |

I've never seen normal dressed people having trouble getting into cage. Perhaps they just looked like neds, as in had that dead-eyed stupid look, rather than being dressed a certain way.
As for getting into normal clubs, I've never had any trouble getting into any club in Dundee dressed the way I normally do. Mardi, Fat Sams, etc. |
