Yeah Atkins is a very risky diet, even if you take all the recommended supplements with it (and I hear there are loads), and even more risky if you don`t.
Its much more productive to eat a balanced diet, cut down on snacks and alcohol, and take regular exercise......old-fashioned but it works a treat!

I agree with you, Atkins is only dangerous if overdone, like a lot of people are just now. My Mum was on the Atkins diet years ago, as was my Dad, obviously I can't prove anything about my Mum's progress, but it's 6 years on and my Dad never put the weight back on. Don't stop carbohydrates altogether, just watch what you eat, it really works! It is a healthy diet.

i don't think atkins is unealthy because of the carbohydrate limiatation (although it's not good for you), but because of the amount of fat and salt most people eat during it.

here's a diet i tried and it worked when i was 16.

slice of toast for breakie with some sunflower spread.
steak and gravy pie with one of those mini bottles of irn bru for lunch
proper meal made by mum, + drinking loads of water/juice for rest of night

despite needing to pee loads being a bit of a draw back, i lost 2 stone in weight over a really short period of time, about 3 weeks. i slept for lots of that too as i had fuck all energy, couldnt do that now that i'm working.

*this diet is only recommended if you still live with your mum

weight is a major issue in my family and my uncle did the atkins and looked unrecognisable and my sisters 18th because he lost so much weight, and he felt great too - it appears to be just a very finely balanced diet

I don't think it's because of the fat and salt you eat, I think it's to do with the lack of carbohydrates.

One of my friends is a nurse, and she asked the doctors at work about it. Apparently eating like that puts a strain on some of your internal organs. I can't remember which ones though, I think the heart was one of them.

but surely the fat and salt put a strain on your heart? seeing as too much salt and fat leads to heart disease?
