I remember the coconut grove. Not going there obviously, as it burned down in the 80s when I was a kid, I just remember the outside of it.

it was weird when it changed cos i remember speaking to ian about it and he said that it might not be permanent, and that was just a week or two down the line! most folk still called it the balcony anyway!

does anyone know when the coconut grove burned down? i'm sure i remember seeing it too when i was really young, and i mustve been if it burned down in the 80s. it would have to very late 80s mind you.

I'm sure it was on the bit of waste ground beside the old Abertay union on the dual carriageway, near the old Westie. I might be wrong, it is the hazily recollected 17 year old memory of an under 6's grasp of geography. I'm sure it was thereabouts anyway, because the day I went, I'm sure we cut through the old Overgate and I got a really cheap set of paintbrushes from What Everyone Wants or a similar cheap shop so I could work on a magic colouring book. The sign was pretty cool, featuring green palm trees and purple-y coconuts I think. I remember thinking "What a cool building... I wonder what it's for?"
