She maybe doesn't do a traditional kind of workbut I believe she gets the state papers sent to her every day and does what ever she does with them.

She also makes a lot of official visits all over the world which may not seem as hard as the work most people do but I'm sure it's not straightforward.

I don't think it's fair to say that she hasn't worked a day in her life it may not seem like the same sort of work as you or I do but personally I'm glad that I have the option to do what i want when I want without having it all planned a year in advance. I wouldn't trade my freedom in for all the money in the world.

I'd rather have neither, but sadly thats not going to happen.

£64 million is ridiculous. They don't need about £63 million of that.

Hospitals need more funding, so the government raises taxes. Why not just take it off those greedy bastards.

What's the solution, someone's got to be head of state?

Also £64 million would only keep Scotland's NHS boards running for around 5 days or so.

Spread that accross the country and you're looking at keeping the NHS running for only a couple of hours. Not a good deal in my opinion.

I just feel there are other financial leaks in the country that give us no return whatsoever i.e. benifit fraud, needless court cases that sort of thing. That's what gets my back up not the Queen.

Ah I read that bit wrong, I wouldn't mind President Blair. I just can't stand his stupid wife. If you think about it 5 days is better than a complete waste. There are much better things that the money could be put towards (IMO). There are many other financial leaks, that I do know. So why not put that £64 million into stopping these financial leaks...

If you seriously want to know why people get so worked up by them you could do worse than read Thomas Paine - Age of Reason, it was only published in 1791, so its not like theres never been anything written explaining the core of reasons behind opposition.

Perhaps because power, even the small amount of power that the monarchy still has, should be something given to someone by the people, through the means of election, and not something decided by birthright.

I don't think it's OK, just because "oh I promise I will never use this power that I have OK thanks".

Thankfully I was brought up to have my own opinion and I take slight offense at what you are suggesting.

Also I'm sure not everyone who has ever been opposed to the Queen has read "Age of Reason" so I hardly think that would explain to me why there is such resentment in the general populace.

It may provide me with answers as to why you are against the idea but I hardly see how it will explain why some people choose to call her a sill cow.

Also do you know if the book has been updated recently to reflect society at present as a lot will have changed since 1791 so while some points may be relevant others may just be outdated.

Screw it all, i am going to declare specially emergency powers as soon as i am voted into Chancellor of Great Britian, then i shall use my emergency executive powers to create a GRAND ARMY OF THE COMMONWEALTH (believe it or not, the President of America has these special (undefined) emergency executive powers, check the constitution) and sooner or later declare myself EMPEROR OF THE NEW 1000 YEAR GALACTIC EMPIRE!!!!!!!!
Under special order 66 i will have the Eskimo race eliminated...

Yeah nowhere in that post does it say my parents told me to support the Queen.

You've misinterpreted the phrase "brought up to be loyal" as "told to be loyal to the Queen". Loyalty doesn't just apply to the Queen, you can be loyal to lots of things. I've just happened to make a choice and stick to it.

The reaction I have got just goes to prove my point that the hatred of the monarchy is irrational. I make one reasonably put post and sudenly we sink to the depths of personal insults just because I show the slightest bit of support.

If it is the case that she has no power then she can't make a big difference in your life either positive or negative so why get be so against her?

Honestly you give the government £60 odd million and see how well they spend it.

I also think it's better to have a head of state that is not seen by the rest of the world to be so involved in the politics of a country. That way if you get an idiot like Bush in charge there is someone else who can represent the whole of country around the world.

How many people regard Bush as the spokesman for the entire US and think every one in the US is "just like him"?

I'm sure there are goind to be 1000s of well research statistics into exactly why we shouldn't have a monarch but at the end of the day how many of you can say your life has been adversly effected by having a monarch as a head of state?
