How would you define black metal? does it have to be Scandanavian for instance, must it be 'underground' music, does it all have to do with satan and church burnings? Obviously not but its rather difficult to define. Emperor for instance...ace band, one of the pioneers of the 'Black Metal' scene in Norway but their recent material is musicly miles ahead of most bands labled as black metal same with Zylkon.

Buuuuuuuuuut, as for calling Dimmu Borgir n COF black metal...well...its a theme for another thread (and no, i wouldnt think of them as black metal).

I gotta be honest, i see metal as being 'metal'. Not, hardcore, or thrash or death...just different degrees of heavyness.

its the same in the punk scene, what someone decides is hardcore, might be something different to the guy next to him at the show.

who cares what its called, as long as its full of good tunes!

i wouldnt define zyklone as black metal! emperors early stuff was far superior too there more symphonic laden recent pieces , which border on complete pomposity,though isahn's recent solo work waas rather good, and no it doesent have to be scandanivian or about the church burnings or the " i love satan" nonsense!

i would say dimmu borgir are black metal. not exactly the in the "traditional" sense but still defintley black metal...
