We have a digital box at our flat too and it's absolutly hopeless. The picture goes pixely and theres horrible static noise about every 20 seconds, we havent even plugged it in in about 3 months.

That's the trouble with digital, you get vastly better quality but it can go tits up so easily. With analogue the signal is just a flood of audio/video nonsense, but atleast if you have a poor reception it is still watchable albeit snowy or hissy, but digital technology involves 1's and 0's being transferred between the transmitter and your aerial at twice the speed of smell and if even a solitary '1' is missing during your bout of Eastenders you get a blocky block of blocks that jerks about the screen.
Digital is ideal if you live somewhere like london where the horizon is a perfect line, but dundee is too hilly, I live in kirkton so myself and most of my neighbours require spacestation-like sculptures instead of aerials just to get channel 5. All I can suggest is an amplifier, you get them from Argos and the like for 19 notes, you plug it into the mains and then it has 1 input for your aerial and usually 4 outputs so you can connect up every room with a telly. |

We were gonna get Freeview for our flat, which is bang in the centre of town, but no joy. Film Four is on it now, and Channel 4 seems to put all its interesting looking documentaries on More 4 now.
I think it's a disgrace that the BBC are using our license fees to invest in programming that many of us cannot watch, it is an absolute outrage. That was a Daily Mail style over-reaction there, but I feel the point is a valid one. |
