Hands up if you've ever written a personal statement for uni?
Okay now put your hands down again and prepare to open your email account.
I'm applying to Uni for 2008 and don't have the best of qualifications so I need a bitchin' personal statement. Thing is, I don't recall ever having read one before so if you've written one and you wouldn't mind sharing it with me so I can get a few ideas of how to do mine then I'd be very grateful. Send to: sadfootsign@hotmail.com Thanks! |

I don't have mine anymore (or ever did, other than the one I sent away) but more or less I just said everything I was involved in and how that made me a better, more worldly, tolerant, fun loving guy...!
Gay as fuck, but my grades were hardly gems either. |

Hi Gord,
Personal Statements really aren't that hard. Lots of people seem to just THINK they're hard because they have it in their mind that there's a lot riding on this one tiny bit of writing. Just write anything note-worthy about yourself that you can think of. State (or make up) why you are passionate about whatever course it is you are applying to. You could also state some experience you have gained that would make you ideal for the subject. Like Mike wisely suggested, make a point of stating that you've not been just dossing about since you left school. you have been DOING something. You've been active and Uni is the next step in your life. It's not just something you're applying for because you have nothing else to do! One very important thing to note is: when you read over what you've written, if you dont feel completely embarrassed by how much you've bammed yourself up to the uni, then start again. Throw any pretence of modesty out the window! If you're in need of an extra set of eyes to look over anything you've written I'm sure you've got my e-mail address! PS. Welcome back to Scotland ![]() |

It's not a million miles away from writing a covering letter for a job really. If you can do that, you're sorted.
I'd post mine, but I applied for uni almost 10 years ago, so I have no idea where it is now. |
