I must be getting old because every time I see a pumpkin lantern, or hear children saying they're going trick or treating, I get really annoyed.

It should be a turnip you use for the lantern, and you go guising. You don't get a 'treat' unless you perform a 'trick'.

I remember having to sing a song, tell a joke or read a poem before I got anything. Sometimes you didn't get anything, but you did it just for the fun of going out getting dressed up and entertaining people.

Anyhow, I can rest for another year now.

Grumble over.
