There are a few different species of spider that can do that, but yeah the brown recluse is one of them.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the black widow isn't native to the UK. If there are any, they'll have come across on boats.

You are quite right, its from the southeastern United States...so its another bannana box(...or tobbacco box, or whatever else those crazy plantations are shipping over nowadys)spider.

And damn you, i now have a terrifying image of a cruise ship overrun with millions of spiders crawling, sneaking, skulking, climing everywere on its way to Dundee...
