I wondered what you were on about there, and then noticed my horrific spelling blunder. Luckily your pedantic correction service was on hand to keep me right.

I don't really understand the point of this thread.
Is it merely a "I'm right, you're all wrong" affair?

Cause surely the main point is that people are going out of their way to book some(times) class bands in what is, a relatively small city most bands miss. No? Or is there a rule somewhere in the DIY manual that you can only promote a gig if you can draw cute things on paint..?

I by-passed my humour dose this morning so excuse me if i'm going OTT on what is intended as 'humorous japes', i just don't really understand...

I'm just gently ribbing the poster designers in Dundee who seem to think all posters must look like the fakes I've made.

Counter ribbing for wasting your own time to do them and for bothering in general.

It's funny cos my posters do follow your blueprint though.

erm, the problem is these/us people arent poster designers, they/we are people who put on gigs. big difference.

Alex what input do you put into the Dundee or Uk music scene for that matter? You used to do alot of work, but now you think your correct, yet it seems to me a total failure.

A flyer like you made with bands listed, a link to check them out, a short description, venue and price, surely advertisement ask for that to be put forward clearly?

I do agree posters all look the same, bit generic, but like Maxi said, we're not photoshop experts, generally most of the DIY promoters in town are putting on shows for friends or bands they enjoy listening too.

I'm still doing as much as I can, doing work for bands, putting shows on (currently sorting out a monthly electronica night in Birmingham), releasing music, writing about music.... I don't know how you could consider me a 'failure' in any way. Still, if it helps you to think that I don't have a clue what I'm talking about after being in bands and putting on shows since I was 16 (19 years now!!) then fill your boots

As for posters, you don't need to be a 'photoshop expert' to make them - I mostly hand draw mine, computers only come into it very late in the game.

Takes no time at all to make them, and it's fun coming up with fake band names.

Seems a few people in here have had a major humour bypass.

I've put on a few gigs in Dundee and the majority of the posters for them have had the same layout as your fake ones. It might be pretty generic but its gets the point across - a brief description of the bands never hurts, its generally expected that the date, time and place are to be put on it and what does it matter if you use the word "tax" for the price you charge at the door?

no doubt Alex will have some sort of witty comeback, somewhat degrading on my part.

Alex; the don of keyboard gangsters world wide

I really like this poster GigPosters.com - Electronicat - My Electric Love Affair

Why do you not offer to make posters for the lowly dundonian poster makers for a small reasonable fee. You are clearly very good at it. then you could have a wee giggle at the names of bands and be safe in the knowledge that the poster readers of the world are not suffering in the hands of underqualified poster designers.
