I have listened to the Beatles and I think their tunes are obvious, their lyrics just strung together platitudes, and their harmonies basic.

I too have listened to the Beatles and I think they're okay, a few really good songs, a few really shite songs and a bunch of average ones.
Mostly it's just rock'n'roll standards and whimsical pop with more-often-than-not trite lyrics.
They're like the Stephen King or the Dan Brown of popular music. Competent and easy to digest but far from groundbreaking.

Actually, Dan Brown is all shite. So I'll take that back.

Aye, if folk have actually bothered to listen to them, and still don't like them, thats fair enough. I was just saying that 99% of folk i have met who say they dont like them haven't given them a chance.

No you weren't.
You said if someone doesn't like the Beatles that makes you suspect they haven't listened to them properly. The implication being that you think that people who have listened to the Beatles "properly" should like them.

Whereas, above, you're making the infinitely more sensible stance that those who have taken the time to listen to the Beatles with consideration have a more valid opinion than those who haven't, whether they like them or not.
