I call ego. Seriously. Most folk I know in bands are highly self critical of the music they produce and certainly would be too self concious to dance to their own music. Case in point was Paul Ross getting a beamer any time I played Engage at Guerilla or Coalesce when he was in.

I'm sure people in bands don't make music to dance to it themselves. They may make it because they're driven to, because they feel they have something great to share with the world or because they love it but I'm sure dancing to their demo at the local rock disco isn't top of the list.

as ive said twice already - make the cd and give it to the djs.

u asked for peoples input, i gave it, since then you have mindlessly gone on about production of bands, when frankly thats of very little concern if the music is still untight and dire. u havnt even counter the facts that the bands wont get any real exposure from this project and that very little people will give a rats arse about it. if u cant deal with peoples opinions dont use a public forum to voice yr ideas.

things wrong with this post:

1.) agreeing that one of the reasons for this is so that people can dance to their own band

2.) using the expression "(REAL) band" - unless you know of imaginary bands within yr own skull why use that expression. and DO NOT tell me that pop acts arnt real, most of them work fucking hard and produce amazing music.

In theory, it is a good idea, but i agree with Neil.

By all means make the CD, but just don't expect all of it to get played because it is local, or for people (outside of the bands and their friends) to care.

However, if the any of the tracks are genuinely good and they would fit into the kind of stuff the DJ in question would play, then of course it's worthwhile to make sure they know - though i believe it should work on merit not 'percieved entitlement'.

Knowing Doug, he is the kind of guy who would be all for encouraging and supporting the 'scene' in Dundee, so it may work out.

Though i agree with what Rich is saying too - sound quality doesn't cover up for poor songwriting/performance.

i said that it was a good idea in concept, that bands should b played at cage and that you should do it.

no off you frolick and make the cunting cd if u want to.

pm the bands that u want to include and pm the dj u want to play it.

apart from that there is no need to use ugs to do yr project

To be fair there is a regular customer that comes in every week, aside from Norrie who asks me for any local bands I have, and at the start of the night too, I would have no objections to spinning some local bands songs at the start of the night, but as the night wears on requests dominate and it will be harder to squeeze in a local band track. But I am all for supporting the local scene!
