Charging a car battery

Does anyone know what is the best way to recharge a car battery? I have a flat and I've heard of people buying chargers which plug into the mains. Something like that sounds ideal but how safe are they?

depends if its a good one...

I just jumper the battery from a running vehicle and leave them like so for a while... always works fine...

But I'm talking tractors here.

Aye. But some modern cars jump starting can affect the on board computer. I've done that a few times but it's not something I really want to make a habit of doing if I can help it.

I'll see what I can find.

any luck so far?

i know you can get chargers to use in the house for car batteries. i'm sure i heard argos sell them, but i'd imagine halfords would as well.
