INTERVIEW - w/ Pigscum Guitarist Alan (
www.pigscum.co.uk)
from January 2004
gav: How long has your band been on the go now?
Alan: Almost a year... first gig was in june, we started jammin coupla months before that.
gav: Sounds like it all came together quite quickly, did the band gel instantly?
Alan: Pretty much, we had known each other for a while, through the local scene, and being fans of each others work, and we all share the same interests, so it worked out well.
gav: A marriage made in hell?
Alan: haha, perhaps.
gav: Who's the big chief in the band?
Alan: Well I'm the main song writer, but apart from deek, I've had the least expierience, so its a kinda group effort, since Scott and Quzzy know alot more about touring etc, but the idea behind the band is mine, so i kinda call the shots.
gav: Is it ture you kicked Daz out?
Alan: haha, not quite... Daz left on his own accord... nobody wanted it, but its one of those things.
gav: Can i be the new bassist?
Alan: Can you play bass? if so, then yeah try out...
gav: No i'm totally crap, but it'd mean you could support throwdown.
Alan: haha, cool, you're in!
gav: What goals have you set for the band?
Alan: None really, we don't really dream about being signed, or selling out stadiums, none of us are interested in that really, personally, i just wanna write the heaviest music i can, make people dance, and have a good time! If it goes further than that, then great! And i think thats what the rest of the guys are in it for, just having a good time!
gav: And to bring the rock?
Alan: Yeah man, i write the music i wanna hear, the shit that makes people move!
gav: What element do you concentrate on most in a song during the writing process?
Alan: Probably the music, as that comes first, just try to keep it heavy as possible, yet catchy... then I take riffs/songs to the others, and we work on them, and Deek will write lyrics.
gav: Do the lyrics matter to you?
Alan: To me personaly, not really. I'm more into the riffs and structure, but as a band, i think the lyrics are important... alot of Deek's lyrics focus on oppression, human nature, and 'rising above' and a general hatred for man kind.
gav: Thats pretty pessimistic....
Alan: Yeah man, the worlds not a nice place, and i think thats reflected in our music, its all very angry, and pissed off... but were nice guys really.
gav: What do you like most about playing live?
Alan: I just love playin live! The feeling you get, I like to see peoples reactions to what we do, whether it be dancing and moshing it up, or just shock/disgust, either one gets me goin! And like I said, I write the music I wanna hear, so when it comes to certain bits in the songs, I act just like I would if I was watchin a band I loved.
gav: You hit ppl with your guitar?
Alan: Maybe? If they get close enough... not on purpose though, we just get carried away, lol.
gav: How did you secure the maynards endorsement?
Alan: Haha, due to the amount bought 2 throw @ us every time we play dundee!...
gav: Whats your plans for the band in 2004?
Alan: Well first off, get a new bass player, get him trained up, and get back on the road! Once thats done, we'll hit the studio, and record our first cd... and just play as many gigs all over the country as we can.
gav: Well, we wish you all the luck with that, thanks for the interview.
Alan: Nae baether.
