I'm with Becca. The fact that the Felt forum is busy doesn't take anything away from the main function of the site. To be honest, i reckon Bollocks and the Lounge are much more guilty of that crime, being full of absolute shit as they are.

But thats just my opinion. At least the Felt forum has moved the Felt banter out of the Gigs thread, where it was clogging things up a bit.

Felt: A victim of its own success?

argh becca

people are neglecting the rest of the site to post here. I know this is the felt forum and this is where felt banter should be held, but I'm trying to say that the rest of the site is being ignored in favour of said felt banter. people are talking less about the "underground scene" and more about Felt, from what I can see.

thats cool man, I'm not having a massive whinge, like I said I don't really see the big problem. I just don't want to see UGS turn into a massive social thing instead of being about the music local bands are putting you, you know?

I don't want to start a fight here at all, but...Dave, surely you can see that plenty of UGS-ers treated UGS as a social thing long before Felt became the 'hip place to be'?

I wish i could honestly turn around and say to people that UGS is a fair representation of the local (and further afield) "scene(s)", but its not really, is it?

I dunno, was UGS different before i joined? I've only been on here 7 or 8 months.

I don't want this to be seen as a bitch or whine or attack on anyone thank you, it's just an observation.

bingo look at my join date. it used to be a lot different.

I don't want to argue with anyone over this, I'm just trying to act all Swiss and neutral and justify all the "scenester" bitching. maybe Felt's just a scapegoat for apparent lack of interest in gigs just now.

Ah, fair ehough. I've noticed a 'social scenester' element on here the whole time i've been a member so its been brewing for a while. Now there's no Beatnik they come to Felt. But i'll leave it here.

Lack of interest in gigs is frustrating, but it is exam time. I know i've been oblivious to stuff thats being going on recently cos i'm pretty stressed, and i'm sure a lot of others are the same. Though i thought the turnout (or lack of) at the MTS gig last week was shocking. They were on top form too.

The irony is that Felt being on a Thursday night has prompted more people to come along to the gigs on around the town that night before heading to Felt, in my experience anyway. So it has done some good, if only people could be persuaded out other nights!

I think this has been what is called a digression, kidz.

I agree with Mike to an extent that perhaps more people go to gigs off the back of Felt, not the ones pre-Felt but ones up at the Art Bar or Drouthy's or wherever.. not BECAUSE of Felt (which would be an arrogant and inaccurate thing to say) but it's more tempting to "make a night of it" which is sort of cool.

I think this "oooh it's all so scene" thing is massively exaggerated as some weeks it's worryingly unbusy. I do occasionally have a gripe, but I am glad it is successful and I just hope that everyone comes because they are enjoying themselves & the music and not just forcing themselves because it's some "uncool" cool place to be.

Felt's first few weeks were as busy as it is now it is worth noting, and then there was a bit of a lull over Christmas as students went home and that and personally: it was quite enjoyable quiet as well, with a huge area of dancefloor for people to throw themselves about and stuff, but you can't have it both ways.. a club that quiet would become a commercial liability for wherever it was held and they would stop putting it on, then it's busy and people are like "meh.. it's too busy.. can't dance/get seats". I like it when it's busy or quiet, from my point of view busy is better as it keeps everyone happy and it gives me less panic attacks about things and also it is a nice atmosphere.

I'm the worst person to comment because I hate things I like becoming popular and it's hard to completely disengage myself and think: "Well.. what would I think if I was coming to this night and it was being run by someone else?".

I don't think it really has affected levels of apathy about gigs or talking about bands or whatever. I don't know. It's all contained to its own forum though so I guess it doesn't do any harm.

I dunno. This talk. Yous just scare me sometimes.

I think it is going well, and only time will tell.. I think it's reached its busy-ness peak so I guess eventually it will get as quiet as you all liked, then someday probably die.

Just enjoy yourselves and keep coming if you are enjoying yourselves.

PS. Incidentally, also Lipsick!, Findo Gask, Goldbloom, Dan & Gerard's side project, Boss Star and numerous other local bands songs sometimes find their way onto the playlist and "Let's Disco" should be the Felt theme song. And if that makes people come up and ask "What was that?" or gets people into those local bands then surely that's helpful to the "scene".

By saying this, I am not in any way saying Felt contributed to any of the bands' popularity or anything like that, I'm just saying that it can get their songs heard in semi-busy clubs, and surely that's good?

right ok
first of all,i started going to felt a few months ago and started up the whole "feltography" thing.i know there was loads of folk that went to it before i did and enjoyed it for its "exclusiveness" cause they didnt think anyone knew much about it.
since it has got busier over the last weeks its got better in my opinion, for example last week felt for me was probably one of if not the most enjoyable.
theres been felts that ive been to where its been dead, and again its been very enjoyable.
the only thing that annoyed me about it getting busier was the fact people were requesting songs to dave that just wouldnt get played at felt.it is after all about the music, and certain genres or band just dont fit in with the atmosphere.but daves to nice a chap to slap people about
its not a victim of its own success, people just have to realise that things dont stay the same forever, and felt being such a great night out that it is it was bound to be popular(especially with stella at £1.50 now woooo)
so i say, stop winging and just have a fucken good time.
