Gangs Of New York
I've been reading the book...so I thought I might aswell get the movie.
OMG it is fucking class....combines all the best bits of the book into a great film. One of Martin "Mr New York" Scorsese's best films ever. (Taxi Driver and Goodfellas aswell) |

jesus, it's a shite movie!! scorcese's worst aswell. dicaprio as a convincing gangster and diaz as the femme? jesus, never before has martin had to get the "young heartthrobs" in his films to make a hit but this took the biscuit. only thing that saved the film was the awesome performance of daniel day-lewis as butcher bill and by the end of it you're rooting for him to win cos the fact of being beaten by leonardo dicaprio would make most men suicidal.
and there's still no winner cos the british fleet fucking attacks. some good scenes and nice 'effects' (aren't most movies now though?) but when you put it alongside goodfella's, taxi driver or casino it just isn't scorcese, it's more like spielberg without the token family-orientated cuddly character. |
