The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

This the new Wes Anderson film, with Bill Murray taking the lead role after smaller parts in Anderson's previous two films. It's been getting some mixed reviews, but if Hotdog is to be believed it's 'More ambitious than Rushmore, and warmer and funnier than The Royal Tenenbaums'. It comes out on the 18th, I can't wait.

Seen a writeup about this the other day in the DCA magazine and I think it sounds pretty good. Will definitely be going to see it at the DCA when it comes on, just for the Murray factor.

I'm really looking forward to this. I've worn out my Royal Tenenbaums and Bottlerocket dvd's with over use. Did Owen Wilson co-write this one as well?

This is out tomorrow (it was out last week in London only I think). I thought it would be DCA only in Dundee, but UGC are showing it, haven't checked the Odeon.

Check out Rushmore, it's really good too. I haven't seen Bottlerocket (his first film) yet.

I agree, 'The Life Aquatic' is great (saw it last night). Murray is on top form, but like you say the whole cast is fantastic (Dafoe is particularly funny). Henry Sellick's stop motion animation bits are a nice wee touch as well.

Like all Wes Anderson films, the soundtrack was ace, making good use of Scott Walker, The Zombies, Devo, David Bowie, Sigur Ros...

I'll stop now because i'm running out of superlatives.

I also thought it was an excellent offering. I love Wes Anderson and I had already set myself up for disappointment but was so pleasently surprised. The balance between the technical and the comedic/emotional aspects was perfect. The only thing I thought was missing maybe was that overwhelming feeling the first time I saw 'The Royal Tenenbaums'. Bottlerocket is amaaazing... cacaw cacaw!!!
