Carnivale!

I just bought the box set on Monday. Had never seen an episode before but HBO have never done me wrong, so I was willing to put forty quid's worth of faith in them.

What an amazing series so far (I'm up to episode 6, guest starring John Hannah of all people!). It's VERY slow, with plot advancing at a snails pace, but it's so damn intriguing. It is also beautifully shot, perhaps the best looking of all the major TV shows. Definitely up there with Deadwood, Six Feet Under and (of course) The Sopranos.

There has also been a couple of the most painful and harrowing scenes I've seen on TV. A match for That Thing That Happened In The Second Last Episode Of The Sopranos Series 5 and also That Thing That Cy Tolliver Did in Deadwood (I hate spoilers so I won't inflict any on you!)

Anyone else seen it? And no discussing events past episode six!

here's what amazon says:

A man who has escaped a chain gang joins a travelling carnival which is run by unseen management. More comfortable in his new surroundings he finds within himself supernatural powers... In another part of the country a pastor is haunted by visions. He becomes certain that he must do God's work... Both men come to play a major role in the fight between good and evil.

that's a pretty underwhelming synopsis really, but oh well. it also STARS the backwards talking midget from Twin Peaks, which is recommendation enough.

5 thumbs up! (in honour of it featuring freaks... "one of us, one of us" etc)

you can borray it when i get the rest of my "gear" back.

y tu mama was great, and not just for the obvious reasons (SEX). very touching and beautiful too. I've never seen the third Harry Potter movie so i don't know if director Alfonso Cuarón brought the same mix of masturbation, bodily fluids and NAKED MEXICAN FLESH to the film. Harry, Hermione and Ron wouldn't know what hit them!
