"You know, I like his films except for that nervous fellow that's always in them."

Saw his new movie the other day which was amazingly the first time I've seen a Woody Allen film. It was OK but i understand his older stuff is far better. My friend is an obsessive Woody Allen fan and was gonna make me go see Annie Hall but sadly I've got exams the next day so can't make it!

Edit: Why the fuck did I keep writing Woddy instead of Woody?!

I enjoyed 'Melinda and Melinda' more than I had anticipated, given that it's his latest and he's not in it (the best Woody films are the ones with him in them, for me anyway).
'Annie Hall' is a good place to start, but i'd also recommend 'Broadway Danny Rose', 'Bananas', 'Manhattan', 'Radio Days', 'Mighty Aphrodite', 'Deconstructing Harry', 'Hannah & Her Sisters', 'Sleeper', 'Zelig', 'Purple Rose of Cairo', 'Crimes & Misdeamors'... (Fopp usually has them for a fiver on DVD )
But steer clear of his humour free stuff like 'Interiors' and 'September'.

Also, the Complete Prose book, which collects all his short stories, is the funniest book i've ever read.

oh, i love woody allen

i meant to go see this, but i couldn't... ah well.

still, woody allen's great, some of it's so funny and some isn't that funny, but there's something in the atmosphere and style of all the films that makes them really good whether all the jokes are excellent or not.
